Back to School Is Simple, But It’s Not Easy

back to school is simple, but it's not easy

When I titled this article, I meant it – Back to School is Simple, But It’s Not Easy.

School means the return of a set schedule, and more time to ourselves. So You’d think we would be dancing through the aisles of Target right about now.

But my son is entering third grade, so I’ve had four years to figure out how NOT to handle this situation.

Last year I failed to read not only the busing information, but also the paperwork indicating I was supposed to show up for a, “Meet the Teacher” night. Not a great first impression.

I decided this year to attempt*** to be more intentional with my preparations.

In this episode you will hear:

  • – The importance of checking the school website (even if you don’t want to.)
  • – Shopping for back to school as a way to get kids excited
  • – Shifting routines incrementally back in the direction of school-day schedules

Both kids and parents need support in making this transition. And no matter how you play it – it is a transition.

ADDitude magazine has a webinar with Caroline Maguire which I am planning to attend. My son will already be back in the classroom, but I figure I need all the help I can get.

Back to school is simple, but it’s not easy.

Plan ahead to set yourself up for a less stressful start to the school year.

If you really want to get ahead, develop a relationship with your child’s teacher.

And talk to other moms. Ask about how they handle school paperwork and activities. Chances are, they find it just as overwhelming as you do.
